bed at about 12 midnight, after delicious and lovely meal with some of my closest and oldest friends (organised by my beautiful daniel_bethany), followed by a drunk and unsuccessful attempt at making chocolatecakemeringuething at the behest of johnnypurple and the watching of midsomer murders 3.01. OMG GAVIN TROY CUT HIS FLOPPY HAIR. IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE. WOE.

awake at 4:15am, feeling ill. probably a combination of lingering cold, a little too much red wine, not enough sleep, nervousness about travel (i'd prefer anxiety dreams, people!), and feeling like i'm getting a UTI. drink a litre of water, have a nice hot shower, shave, clean teeth thoroughly, get back into pjs, drink more water, look at the internet.

remember that today is the australian national holiday for the consumption of biscuits. i tell the truth! well, some people like to think it's all about WAR and NATIONALISTIC VIOLENCE and the GLORIES OF WAR and GLORIFYING WAR AND NATIONALISTIC VIOLENCE with a flimsy masquerade of honouring diggers returned and not. but if i think about that i get angry about the stupidity of the whole thing, so i prefer to thing of it as ANZAC BISCUIT DAY!

i like to think that i'm merely getting used to adjusting my sleeping patterns in preparation for FLYING TO LA TOMORROW!

now i'm going to go and sleep through the anzac dawn service. because i'm THAT patriotic, guys.

seriously. i agree that people shouldn't be felt up without permission. i agree that people shouldn't be ogled without permission. i agree that people shouldn't be reduced to their physical attributes without permission. i agree that people should feel safe.

but that is so far from the point of that post, which seems to be thinking about engaging in consensual appreciation of people's bodies, about obtaining explicit consent even from from people who have already agreed to be part of the project that i can't even begin to express how frustrated this is making me. yes, there are some stupid responses. yes, it's not perfect. yes, it's a stupid title that equates female anatomy and subjectivity with coding. but i can't help coming over all WTF about the violent reactions to the post.

fic recs. for those of you with the inclination but not the time to read many lgbtfest fics, may i point you towards the marvellous kyuuketsukirui's recs, and also suggest that you read lilacsigil's firefly fic carbon, pressure, time . . . set post-serenity, and very capably done. i have enormous respect for anyone who can actually write ff characters well, and though this is mal-centric, lilacsigil has also sketched a poignant picture of zoe grieving. the prompt was "Malcolm Reynolds. No one knows that Mal used to have woman parts, and no one needs to. But when he needs medical attention, Simon finds out, and he doesn't understand why it needs to be a secret. After all, everyone on the ship knows who's rutting whom." enjoy. yay for trans fics.

i just don't get this. well, i don't get parenting in the first place, but this? is kinda scary. now, i don't really give a toss what adults want to do in the way of making an artwork of their own bodies, but it's something that i'm pretty iffy about when it comes to doing bikini waxes on eight year old girls. yes, i know it's shock journalism, but still.

i don't have a dream job. there are things i like to do, and it would be great to be paid for them, but i don't like the idea of my dream/desire being a job. how utterly tedious. at the moment i'm being paid to do research. that is good. one day i'd like to be paid to walk. but ultimately i wish i didn't have to need/need to have money. i wish that we could do what we wanted without being strangled by capitalism.
